The Latest Smart Hospital Room Features Healthcare Leaders Need to Know

At eVideon, our Vibe Health smart room platform is not just about improving day-to-day interactions between patients, families, and care teams; it’s about reimagining the future of healthcare by elevating the way that care is delivered and experienced.

Becker's Hospital Review published the 10 top ROI measures that hospital leaders are prioritizing when investing in digital technologies— improved patient outcomes, improved patient experience, clinical time savings, reduced patient harm, and operational efficiency to name a few. During our recent webinar, eVideon CTO Scott King and VP of Clinical Innovation Heather Wood unveiled the updates and enhancements to our Vibe Health smart room platform that specifically address these measures.

This blog summarizes the key takeaways from the webinar, highlighting the significance of these advancements and how smart room technology continues to revolutionize patient care and empower healthcare providers.

Featured Updates to the Vibe Health Smart Room Platform

The Vibe Health smart room platform continues to evolve with exciting updates across the product suite. Below we’ve highlighted just a few of the key platform updates discussed during the webinar, with an emphasis on enhancing communication, increasing patient engagement, and improving clinical efficiency.

  • Digital whiteboard designs for diverse patient populations: From mother-baby units to NICU and pediatric patients, we’ve thoughtfully adapted digital whiteboards to meet the unique needs of specific patient groups. Pediatric themes provide child-friendly visuals, while family communication is prominently displayed.

For Veterans, we offer the industry’s first-ever digital whiteboard that acknowledges and honors patients' military service. This feature creates a more personalized and respectful care environment that enhances clinical efficiency for this unique population. The platform is already integrated with VistA, the VA's EHR system, and integrations are planned with Oracle Health with the goal of streamlining VA-specific clinical workflows.
  • Virtual care integrations that connect patients, families, and clinicians: Technology partnerships are essential in healthcare. No single vendor can do it all. Vibe Health has built partnerships with many of the leading telehealth solution providers, including Amwell, Andor, AvaSure, Care.ai, Caregility, Teladoc Health, and Zoom. These partnerships enable hospitals to leverage Vibe Health on the footwall TV as a central communication hub, eliminating the need for nurses to bring additional technology or carts into the room.

Many hospitals are using smart room technology to deploy virtual care, which might include tele-monitoring, tele-consultation, tele-mentoring, and virtual visits. OhioHealth leverages Vibe Health’s Engage TV and Companion tablet solution with Caregility cameras to deliver a virtual care model at Pickerington Methodist Hospital. In a recent interview with HealthLeaders, Cynthia Latney, SVP and Chief Nursing Executive at OhioHealth shared that the smart room technology has lessened the bedside nurse's burden while providing more support to the care team, the patient, and to new graduate nurses.
  • Interactive features that engage patients and inform hospital staff: Patients today want greater control and autonomy throughout their care experience, which includes inside their hospital room. Vibe Health’s Engage TV and Companion tablet restore that independence to patients—enabling them to order meals, request services, and now control their room environment, including lights, temperature, and shades.

Hospital staff can also stay more informed of patient sentiment by using Vibe Health’s real-time survey functionality. Specifically, Scott addressed two new survey features on Engage TV that enable hospitals to more proactively gather feedback. First is a new discharge readiness survey that uses customizable questions to engage patients upon admission and keep them engaged and informed throughout their stay to prepare for their transition out of the hospital. The second is a survey designed to help hospitals meet CMS’s reporting requirements for social determinants of health (SDOH) data. Under the CMS Framework for Health Equity 2022-2032, healthcare organizations are required to gather and report on patient data across five SDOH domains. Vibe Health’s SDOH survey capability allows hospitals to gather this data privately using the in-room TV or bedside tablet rather than on-the-spot interviews. These surveys are just some of the many updates offered through the Vibe Health platform to create a more personalized, data-driven care experience.

Future Directions and Innovations

Looking ahead, both speakers highlighted eVideon’s ongoing commitment to innovation and meeting the future demands in patient care. One such way they are anticipating demands is by keeping a watchful eye on the wave of new AI technology hitting the market, and working in partnership with both our clients and integration partners to assess innovation priorities and opportunities to positively impact clinical efficiency, patient experience, and operations. There is much enthusiasm across our client community for the features and enhancements shared in this webinar and we are eager to push forward on the promise to elevate the care experience for patients, their families, as well as clinicians, nurses, and hospital staff.
